The Tree Things

About The Tree Things

Out on the gravel roads of Liberty, woodlots and hayfields trade places every half mile, and in January the wind runs the gaps between them. The Tree Things handles the winter side of that country: plowing drives and yards, clearing walks, and spreading salt or grit where a north-facing slab holds ice into the afternoon. An ice-storm morning is the real test — everything glazed, the maples ticking, and one clear lane the difference between a stuck day and an ordinary one. The truck goes out, the route runs, the pavement comes back. Simple to say; good to see done.
