By the middle of May the corn west of Leoni Township is only a green stitch across brown fields, and every lawn in the township is running ahead of itself. Oulch&son's gets the year started — winter debris raked out of the corners, beds re-cut and mulched, that first cut taken before the grass thinks about going to seed. After that it settles into a rhythm: mowing, trimming, edging, and the walks blown clean before the truck pulls out of the drive. There is a particular pleasure in the season's first mow, when a shaggy yard turns back into a lawn inside of an hour. The rhythm carries on to the far end of autumn.
