In June the corridor along the Pere Marquette Rail-Trail is one solid wall of green, and the yards on either side of Larkin Township try their best to keep up. Greenworks Lawn Services keeps up on their behalf: mowing on schedule, trimming fence lines and mailbox posts, hauling off the clippings and leaves that gather in the corners. When the year flips over, those same properties get plowed out and the walks scraped down so the mail can land on a dry step. Grass and snow are opposites, but the job is identical — show up, take the mess, leave the place straightened. Around here green stays a verb for most of the year.
