On the west side of Lapeer the houses stand tall and narrow with deep porches, and their front yards were laid out back when people expected to sit outside and look at them. Kempinski's Landscape Design LLC works in that spirit, drawing beds and borders that suit a house instead of fighting it, then keeping the lawn cut and the lines held all season. Lilacs, old spruce and a century of shade make for particular soil and particular light, and a plan has to answer both. A yard that looks composed in June and still makes sense in bare November was drawn with some thought behind it. That is the aim on every property.
