At Lakeport the lawns stop where the beach grass starts, and weather here does not arrive so much as come in sideways off open water. Lake Huron Lawns mows, trims and edges along M-25 and the cottage roads through the warm months, then turns to plowing, shoveling and salting once the wind swings northeast and the drives begin to fill. Sandy shoreline ground grows a different lawn than the fields inland, and it wants a different touch — cut a little high, edged where the sand is forever trying to creep back in. Cleanups in spring and fall clear the cast-up branches and the maple leaves out of the beds. Two very different seasons, one short stretch of coast, looked after end to end.
