Spring comes late to the hardwood hills above the Grass River, and when it arrives it arrives all at once — trilliums, then mud, then green. Humus & Harmony works with the lawns of Kearney Township through that turn, mowing, trimming and edging as the ground firms up and the season finally commits itself. The soil here is glacial and moody, sand in one corner of a yard and dark loam in the next, so no two lawns behave the same way. Learning what a particular lawn wants and then giving it exactly that, week after week, is the real pleasure of the job. By June the hills are full and the yards look like they belong to them.
