Kawkawlin lies flat against Saginaw Bay, where the river slides brown and slow past the marsh grass and the wind has nothing at all to break it. Small Nuts and Bolts mows those yards in the cool of the morning, before humidity comes up off the water and the heat settles over the bean fields. Grass is cut, trimmed along foundations and mailboxes, and edged where lawn meets sidewalk. Clippings are blown off the drive so nothing tracks indoors. In fall the leaves come down all at once here, and they are gathered up and hauled away before the ground goes hard.
