Along M-27 in Inverness Township the land lies low between the water and the Cheboygan River, and by mid-December the sun is gone before five. Winter is most of the year up here, so the work runs to plowing drives and lots, clearing walkways, and salting the shaded aprons that stay frozen right through a thaw. When the ground finally lets go in May, that same route becomes mowing, edging and trimming, plus a heavy spring cleanup to undo what five months of snow left behind.
