About Snow Removal by Thomas

A Lake Superior squall arrives in Houghton like a door swinging open: the air goes white, the streetlights lose their edges, and four inches land in about the time it takes to eat supper. Night work is normal here, not an exception. Snow Removal by Thomas plows driveways and lots, clears walks and entryways down to the surface, and puts salt where ice would otherwise be lying in wait come morning. Working through a band at two a.m. — headlights, falling snow, nobody else out anywhere — is strange and kind of beautiful, and then it's finished and the drive is open. By daylight the storm total is somebody else's news story and your car goes where you point it.
