Lake Lansing sets the tempo for Haslett. In June the water pulls people outside and the yards around it grow fast and thick; by January that same shoreline is a flat white plate with the wind running across it unimpeded. Four M Lawn & Snow works both ends of that year — mowing, trimming and edging while the light is long, then plowing drives and opening walks when the light is gone by five. Mid-Michigan storms tend to arrive overnight and finish by breakfast, which makes the early hours the whole game. A cut lawn in July and a cleared drive in February are the same promise made twice.
