Hartland's village center is small enough to walk end to end: the Cromaine District Library, the old Music Hall, a few blocks of houses off Avon Street with lawns that meet the sidewalk head-on. Kotch's Lawn & Services keeps that kind of yard honest — mowed on schedule, trimmed at the foundation and the fence, edged back where the turf tries to creep over the concrete. Saturday mornings the mower goes early, so most of the day still belongs to the people who live there. Out past the village the lots get bigger and the routes get longer, but the order of the work never changes: cut, trim, edge, tidy, gone. A well-kept lawn is one of the ways a town shows it is paying attention.
