At four in the morning in February, Hartland Township is nothing but headlights, blowing snow, and the low orange glow off the US-23 interchange. That is when Brett's Property Services LLC is out plowing, opening driveways along Clyde and Bergin before anyone has to think about the school bus, then salting the walks so the first step out the door is a sure one. Come May the same roads are an entirely different job — mowing, trimming, edging, and carrying off whatever winter left behind in the yard. The pride sits in the same place either way: a clean line, whether it is cut into six inches of snow or into the grass at the lip of the drive. Two seasons, one township, the same truck coming back around.
