Up on the shore side of Hagar Township the ground is sand under a thin skin of turf, dune grass leaning inland, and the big lake throwing light back up at the bluffs all afternoon. Lawns here run hot and dry by August, so North Shore Lawn Works keeps the cut high enough to shade its own roots and mows on a cadence that suits sandy ground rather than fighting it. Off the Blue Star corridor the vineyards give the township its long straight lines, and a well-edged lawn borrows the same discipline: a firm border at the walk, a clean stop at the drive. Trimming takes care of what the deck cannot reach — mailbox posts, the corner of the deck stairs, the strip along the fence. On a July evening, with the light coming off the water, the yard looks as unhurried as the rest of the shore.
