Hadley Township rides the glacial hills of southern Lapeer County, where gravel roads climb, drop and climb again past board fence, pasture and the woods edging the Ortonville recreation land. Ground like that never mows flat — Frazier Grounds works the slopes and the swales, holds a line around the fence posts, and edges the drives back to their true width where the turf has crept in. In the green months the hills run wet in the low spots and dry on the crowns, so the cut is set to what the ground will carry. When winter comes, those same rolling drives are what has to be opened, plowed wide with the banks thrown clear of the curve so nobody backs out blind. It is unshowy work with a plain result: a place that looks kept, from the road all the way back to the barn.
