Late May is when a lawn in the Woods decides what it is going to be for the rest of the year. Mayscape Services is out on Roslyn and the streets around it while the grass is still growing faster than anyone can quite believe — mowing, trimming, edging, clearing the clippings off the sidewalk before leaving. A yard cut on schedule during the green weeks will hold its shape all the way to September. It is unglamorous, it is weekly, and it makes an entire block look different.
