There is old-growth white pine standing north of Grayling that was never cut, and the whole township lives at that scale — tall trunks, long shadows, a great deal of sky in between. M&D landscaping works at ground level inside it, where a lawn is more a clearing than a field. Autumn is the season people remember: needle and hardwood leaf carried off the grass, beds cleared, everything put right ahead of the first real cold. Summer is the weekly cut and the tight trim around post and porch. Small ground, kept well, under very big trees.
