Lake Margrethe holds the light late into a July evening, and the mowing on that side of Grayling Charter Township gets done in it. M&D landscaping runs the weekly cut through those lots — the sloped ones dropping toward the water, the flat ones back along the road — trimming in around boat trailers, split rail and the odd stand of birch. Grass beside a lake takes water differently than grass along the highway, and the schedule bends to that. Cleanups in spring open a yard back up; cleanups in fall put it to bed. At dusk the cut lines are still readable from the road.
