Glennie sits in the jack pine and hardwood between the Au Sable and Alcona Pond, where the Huron National Forest begins and the two-tracks disappear into it. J & H Services plows through that winter — driveways, lots, camp roads, and walks shoveled and salted when the pack goes to ice. Storms come off Lake Huron and hang in the timber, and a drive that was open at midnight can want another pass by six. There is a plain kind of pride in being the reason somebody gets out to town on a bad morning. The route runs all season, storm after storm.
