Germfask sits on the Manistique River at the south gate of Seney's wide marshes, where winter is less a season than an address. Alpine Landscape and Snow plows drives and lots here, opens walkways, and comes back when the wind rebuilds a drift across an open stretch of M-77. Snow is measured in feet in this country and the dark comes early, so much of the work runs by headlight through long Upper Peninsula nights. Getting a driveway open before someone has to leave in the morning is the whole job, and it is worth doing right. Salt and ice control finish it wherever the pack turns slick.
