About Green Roots Outdoors

At four in the morning in January, the Latson Road interchange is the only lit thing for a mile, and the snow coming down through the cones of the lamps has already put four inches on every drive in the township. Green Roots Outdoors is out in it — blades down, pushing lots into tidy banks at the far corners, salt going out behind the truck, steps and walks opened by hand where no machine will fit. The work is finished before most people are awake, which is the entire point of it: a clear drive at seven, a sidewalk nobody has to think about, a car that goes where it is pointed. Storms here arrive in two kinds, the long grey ones that never quit and the quick hard ones that drop it all at once, and both get answered. Seasonal accounts and single-storm calls alike, right through the winter.
