The ground under Genoa Township still remembers the glaciers — clay packed tight, gravel seams, hills poured into place and left to settle. Aeration Boy works with that soil instead of fighting it, pulling cores out of hard-packed turf so water and root can finally reach down where they belong. Autumn is the hour for it here, when the mornings run cool off the kettle ponds and the grass turns hungry for seed. Overseeding follows the aerator, fertilizer follows the seed, and come the next May a thin, tired lawn has thickened into something that takes a footprint softly. Mowing and seasonal cleanups hold it there the rest of the year, on the newer lots off the back roads and the older ones nearer the water alike.
