Late August in Gaylord: the trails at Aspen Park are dusty, the light comes in low and gold by seven, and every lawn in town has been growing hard since May. Grass, Weeds, & Dirty Deeds handles the part nobody volunteers for — mowing on the week, cutting down the tall stuff along fence lines and foundations, edging the walk back to a line, and hauling away what is left. The name is a joke; the stripes are not. A yard here gets maybe twenty good weeks, and the intention is to use all of them. Come October the leaves go too, and the place gets handed back to winter looking square.
