Morrow Lake lies wide and still just west of Galesburg, and in October it doubles the color of every tree standing along its banks. That is the busy stretch for Naturescape Lawn and Landscape Care — a last few cuts as growth slows, leaves gathered off the turf before the rain mats them down, beds tidied so a yard goes into the cold looking settled rather than abandoned. Then the light shortens, the lake goes pewter, and the work turns to plowing: drives opened early, ice treated at the low spots where meltwater always finds its way back. The pleasure is in continuity, in knowing which yard drains poorly and which corner catches drift, and in showing up before it becomes anyone else's problem.
