About C D Lawn Maintenance & Supply

East of Galesburg the land opens out toward Climax in long fields, and the sky over them is bigger than a small town has any right to. C D Lawn Maintenance & Supply spends the green half of the year in that light, mowing yards that run right up to the crop line, trimming around mailbox posts and old fence corners, hauling off the leaves when October finally sends them down. In winter the job changes shape: farm lanes here can run a quarter mile, and drifting is less a nuisance than a plan the wind has already made. The trick is to push the snow far enough back the first time that the next west wind has nothing to work with. A lane cleared to the road, a turnaround wide enough for a truck — that is the whole ambition, and it is a good one.
