Lake Michigan sits twenty-five miles west of Gaines Township, close enough to send its snow inland in long gray bands that can bury Kalamazoo Avenue overnight. Circle C & Associates, LLC works those hours — plowing driveways and commercial lots while the band is still falling, then again once it passes, because snow out here rarely finishes in a single visit. There is a plain pleasure in a lot opened up at three in the morning: headlights swinging, the pile growing at the far corner, the pavement coming back. When the ground turns over in April the same properties want mowing, trimming and edging, and the routes go green for the long half of the year. Both seasons here reward somebody who shows up before anyone has to ask.
