Fruitland township catches whatever Lake Michigan decides to send inland, and in December that means snow arriving sideways over the dune ridge for days at a stretch. Cooley Lawn Care and Snowplowing LLC works both halves of that year — plowing drives and clearing walks through the lake-effect stretches, then mowing and trimming once the ground dries out in May. Between the ridge and the orchard roads inland, properties run from village-sized yards to long sand drives under the pines, and each wants a slightly different approach. The good feeling in this job is small and repeatable: a lawn cut even in July, a drive opened wide in January, somebody's morning made easier.
