Fairgrove Lawns

About Fairgrove Lawns

There is a week in early August when a good part of Monroe County ends up at the fairgrounds, and the lawns back home are taking the hardest days of their year — full sun, no rain, clay baked pale. Fairgrove Lawns cuts a little taller through that stretch, because grass left with some length shades its own roots and holds color longer between storms. The rest of the visit is the usual careful business: trimming along fence lines and mailbox posts, edging the walk, blowing the drive clean before the truck pulls away. Come September the rain returns, the green floods back, and the mowing height drops again. Watching a lawn come through a Frenchtown August still standing is a quiet reward for having read it right.
