The Tittabawassee takes its time through Freeland, looping through bottomland cottonwoods before it heads down toward Saginaw. Come winter the same trucks are out plowing drives and clearing lots while the river runs black between white banks. There is a particular pleasure to a January morning when the plow work finishes early and a whole street of driveways sits open and square.
