Thaw comes to Freedom as mud and meltwater, ditches running along Pleasant Lake Road and last year's mat of grass waking up gray-green underneath. Turon Lawn Care LLC opens the season right there — the first cut that takes winter off a lawn, then the steady weekly return through May and June. In the evening, with the mower shut down and the wind coming up off the lake, a fresh-cut yard is about the finest thing on that road. Trimming, edging, cleanup: small things that add up to a house looking cared for from a hundred yards out. Around here that is the whole job, and it deserves to be done well.
