Freedom Township is laid out in square miles, corn on one side of the road and hay on the other, with church steeples standing up out of the fields like markers. Freedom Landscape & Snow Services mows the yards inside that grid — farmhouse lawns wide enough to lose an afternoon in, the strip that runs down to the ditch, the tight turns around a mailbox post and a propane tank. Midsummer the mower runs from morning glare into the long gold hour, and the finished rows lie down in bands you can read from the road. Autumn adds the cleanup: leaves out of the fence corners and off the drive before the ground goes hard. It is plain work done attentively, on land that never pretends to be anything but itself.
