Fenton grew up around water and still lives by it — the Shiawassee River sliding through the middle of town, Lake Fenton and Silver Lake holding whole neighborhoods in a curve of docks and shade. Warrens Lawns and Trees LLC works those yards on a weekly turn: mowing, trimming along shore steps and retaining walls, edging walks and drives, and clearing leaves and clippings before they end up in the water. Lakefront lots are all slope and corners, so the trimmer does as much of the finish work as the mower does. Under the old street maples the grass grows thin, and the cut gets raised to protect it. On a Saturday morning with the river running low and every walk edged, the street looks cared for end to end.
