TerraShape Tree Company turns to snow work through those months — plowing drives and lots, cutting walkways open, spreading salt where the cold digs in and stays. Storms on this side of the state arrive in bands, three inches one night and eight the next, so the route runs storm by storm instead of by the calendar. There is something plain and good about a driveway pushed wide and square while the woods behind it are still buried to the trunks. Winter here is long, and getting out of it in the morning should be the easy part.
