In the Thumb the wind gets a running start. It comes across the beet and bean ground with nothing in the way, and by January it has moved half a field of snow into the end of somebody's driveway. Averills Lawn Services LLC opens those drives back up, plowing them wide, shoveling the walks and steps, and treating the ice that forms where meltwater runs. When the fields go green again the same properties want mowing, trimming around the mailbox and the outbuildings, and a cleanup to pull the grit and sand out of the grass. Fairgrove asks a lot of a place in winter and gives all of it back in July.
