The Saginaw River slides past Essexville flat and wide, carrying freighters up to the docks and taking the spring melt out toward the bay. Bay Landscaping & Garden Center works both halves of the year alongside it, mowing, trimming, edging and running seasonal cleanups once the ground dries, then plowing, shoveling and treating ice when the river turns to slush. Lake-plain soil here is heavy and holds water, so timing the first cut matters nearly as much as the cut itself. Winter crosses this ground with nothing to slow it and drives fill fast, which is why they get opened early. There is a continuity in it, the same hands in July and in January, and a property that never gets away from anyone.
