The old rail line through Edmore is a trail now, running straight out of the village between the maples and off toward open farm country, and in May the whole corridor greens up at once. RC Lawn Care LLC works the yards along those streets — modest village lots where a crooked line is obvious from the sidewalk, and larger places out where the lawn simply ends in a field. Spring arrives late here and then hurries: grass that lay flat and brown in April wants cutting twice a week by the middle of June. Getting that first mow right sets the shape of the entire summer, so the edges are recut and the beds cleared before anything else happens. A lawn striped clean under old maples is a small thing that makes a whole street look loved.
