Saturday morning on the streets off Kelly Road is a good hour to see Eastpointe as it really is: porches with two chairs on them, hedges kept low, driveways full, everybody out doing something. Holleywood Lawn Service belongs to that morning — mower off the trailer, a clean cut across the front, trimmer around the porch steps and the mailbox post, a crisp edge where the grass meets concrete. In winter the same streets need a different favor, and the plow and shovel do it, opening drives and walks so the porch chairs are only a season away. The houses here sit close, which means one well-kept yard lifts the two beside it. That is a small thing to be proud of, and worth being proud of anyway.
