Winter arrives in the Jordan Valley from above — first on the high ground out toward Deadman's Hill, then down the grade into East Jordan until the whole bowl of the town has gone white. C&L Excavating runs snow removal through it: plowing driveways, lots and private roads, opening walkways, and salting the slick places where meltwater runs back across concrete overnight. Three in the morning is the useful hour, headlights and falling flakes, banks pushed back far enough to survive the next round. Hills and lake wind mean one driveway can drift twice before dawn, so the route gets driven again. What a customer sees at daylight is simply pavement — dark, open, and ready before the first car turns over.
