About Sleeping Bear Services

Deep winter up here is mostly darkness and lake effect — clouds come over from Lake Michigan and unload on the high ground east of Grand Traverse Bay for days at a stretch. Sleeping Bear Services runs the plow through those long nights, opening driveways, clearing lots, shoveling out the steps and salting wherever the ice glazes over. Ten inches can arrive between supper and sunrise, so the job gets done in the hours before anyone else is awake. There's a lasting pride in a drive that's black and wide at six in the morning, no matter what fell on it. East Bay township earns its winters, and somebody has to go out and meet them.
