Spring reaches Eagle by way of the Looking Glass River, which runs full and brown through Clinton County farmland long before the fields have thought about drying out. Stacey's Lawn Care starts the season right there — a first cut on soft ground, edges redone where the winter plow shoved gravel into the turf, the litter of the thaw raked out of the beds. Out here the horizon is a line of woodlot and grain bins, and a mowed lawn reads from a quarter mile off, so the stripes had better run true. There is a plain kind of pride in watching a yard come back green while the corn is still only knee-high. Through the summer the routine stays unfussy: cut, trim, blow the walks clean, move on.
