Kanitz Excavating

About Kanitz Excavating

The River Raisin runs right through Deerfield, and in a January blow the open Lenawee farmland gives the wind nothing to catch on. Kanitz Excavating pushes snow through those nights — driveways, farm lanes and lots cleared out, walks shoveled down to the surface, salt where ice sets up hard by the doors. Drifting is the local specialty, so the banks get stacked where a second storm cannot simply hand them back. Blissfield, Petersburg and the roads toward the state line all fit into one night's route. Morning traffic moving normally is the point of the whole exercise.
