Custer sits on the flat between the Pere Marquette River and the big lake, close enough that winter arrives sideways — a gray band off Lake Michigan and then a foot of snow nobody forecast an hour earlier. DT Services works both ends of the calendar: plowing and shoveling drives, walks and lots through those squalls, and mowing, trimming and edging once the ground dries out in spring. Summer along US-10 is farm dust and river cool, and the grass comes in thick where sand gives way to loam. The work is simple to describe and satisfying to finish — a drive opened before the school bus, a lawn cut level right up to the mailbox post. Custer and the surrounding Mason County towns are the territory.
