The St. Joseph River takes its slow bend south of Colon, and by January it runs dark between banks gone white and soft. Yoder's lawn maintenance LLC works both ends of that year: mowing, trimming and edging when the grass will not quit growing, then plowing drives and shoveling walks when the county roads go to packed snow. A winter morning here is largely about access — the turnaround opened wide enough to back a truck, the ice at the apron broken up and treated. In August it is about proportion, the cut height right for the heat and the edges holding their shape until the next visit. Same properties, same care, two very different kinds of weather.
