Many Hands Make Light Work

About Many Hands Make Light Work

On a July evening west of Colon the light lies flat across the fields, Palmer Lake goes glassy, and the buggy tracks on the gravel shoulder are still fresh. Many Hands Make Light Work is finishing a lawn in that hour — the mow laid down in even passes, the trimmer taking the fence posts and the mailbox and the base of the old maple. Come autumn the leaves come down all at once out here, and they get raked, gathered and carried away rather than pushed to the ditch. Every yard has its own awkward corner, its slope, its patch that stays wet after rain, and the work is learning them one by one. Lawn care for Colon and the quiet roads of St. Joseph County.
