The mill pond above the dam in Clinton holds the sky perfectly still on an April morning, and its banks green up before anything else in town does. Sexton Underground LLC starts its season about then — spring cleanup, the first mows, edges recut along walks and drives after a winter of sand. From there it settles into the weekly rhythm of mowing and trimming through the Raisin valley's long humid summer. There is a version of a lawn that only exists for the hour right after it is finished, and that is the one worth chasing. Come November it is leaves and one last cut, and the year closes out clean.
