The ferry runs all year across the channel to Harsens Island, and in May it carries mowers over to lawns that have just turned that first ridiculous green. Vita Green Lawn works both sides of that water in Clay Township — mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing and mulching, with a thorough tidy-up at each end of the growing year. Island and mainland ground drain differently, so the route follows the soil more than it follows the map. A lawn coming out of a delta winter looks rough for a couple of weeks and then suddenly does not, and being the reason for that turn is a fine way to spend a spring. By June the whole route reads like a single idea.
