Seeder & Co

About Seeder & Co

Chikaming Township keeps one shoulder against Lake Michigan, and the lake writes the winter here: a west wind lifts moisture off open water and lets it go over the dunes, the orchards and the vineyards all in the same grey hour. Seeder & Co works those storms — plowing the wooded lanes and back roads, opening walks at weekend houses and year-round ones alike, salting the ice that forms when a thaw off the water refreezes at dusk. Some drives run long and sandy under the trees, and each has to be pushed back before the next band comes ashore. By the time the sun goes down pink over the water the drives are dark and open, the banks squared, and the place looks like nobody had to fight for it. That is the entire point of the work.
