In Burtchville Township the sun comes up out of Lake Huron, and on a July morning the water throws light across the lawns all the way inland from Lakeport. Dusty's Lawn Care & Services is out in it early, mowing, trimming and edging along the shore road and the streets that run back from the beach. Lake air keeps this grass thick and green well past the point where inland lawns have gone tired, so the season here stretches long. Cottage yards and year-round yards get the same treatment: even lines, tight edges, clippings off the drive. Late in the year the route comes back around for leaves and a last cut, with the freighters still sliding by out on the horizon.
