Burr Oak sits out on the old prairie, and prairie wind in February gets a long unobstructed run at anybody's driveway. Craven lawn takes the early shift against it, plowing and shoveling through the village and out along the section roads while most of St. Joseph County is still in bed. When the ground finally softens, the same attention goes into mowing, trimming and edging the yards on that route. Snow and grass are different problems with one answer here: show up on time and do not leave anything half-done. There is a quiet pleasure in driving back past a morning's work to find every drive open and every walk down to bare concrete.
