In January the streets near Weko Beach go very quiet, and the houses along them still need somebody paying attention. Caretakers looks after Bridgman properties in both directions of the year: clearing snow from drives and walkways when the lake sends squall after squall over the dunes, then mowing and trimming those same yards once the sand warms and the summer people come back. This is a town that empties and fills with the calendar, but lawns and driveways do not much care which month it is. Being the one who turns up during the dark February weeks is most of what the name means. Come July the grass is cut, the edges are clean, and the place looks the way it should for the season it is in.
