The Friendly Green

About The Friendly Green

Late August mornings in Brampton come with dew heavy enough to soak a boot and mist standing over the cedar swamp until the sun clears the treeline. The Friendly Green waits that out and then mows — cutting, trimming, edging the walks, holding the bed lines where the wild edge of Delta County is always trying to move back in. Grass grows differently within sight of a swamp than it does out on open sand, so the height and the interval change with the yard. Cleanups bookend the year, spring and fall, hauling away whatever the season dropped. There is a plain pleasure in the last look back at a yard that has been left calm and finished.
